As Jersey’s Director of Children’s Safeguarding and Care, I’m writing to invite you to join our ambitious Children’s Social Care Service to help transform the lives of children, young people, and families.
The Government of Jersey has pledged to Put Children First and there is a high level of political commitment to make Jersey the best place for children and young people to grow up.
Children and young people deserve the greatest level of safety, protection, and care. This is difficult for some families and they need support from the Children’s Social Care Service, other services in the Children, Young People, Education and Skills Department (CYPES) and our partner agencies including the police, health, and adult services.
We know, from the Independent Jersey Care Inquiry, that services to protect and care for children, in Jersey, have not been good enough in the past. We are determined to improve the experiences and outcomes of children, young people and their families who need support from the Children’s Social Care Service and our partner agencies.
We are ambitious about the future of our service and we are committed to help make Jersey the best place for children and young people to grow-up and be safe.
We have a comprehensive plan to enable confident, restorative, rights, and relationship-based practice, to build a stable and skilled workforce and to deliver the right services at the right time, together with our partners.
We need brilliant, talented, and creative people to move to our Island and join in the great work already being done to improve the care, welfare and status of our children and help shape our future.
While our stunning surroundings are certainly inviting, we understand that Island life isn’t for everyone, and there’s plenty to consider. You must be prepared to pay more to live and work in a stunning Island. However, there is scope to be creative – social work caseloads are low, resources are relatively high, partner agencies are all within walking distance and the Island is relationship-based. You’ll have the time and space to give each child the love, thought and response they deserve.
Together we will develop the perfect conditions to enable children and young people to flourish and ensure that excellent social work flourishes; a world in which social workers can exercise their professional discretion and judgement and feel proud of their work and profession.
If you think this opportunity is right for you, and you want to be part of putting children and young people first, please join us and be part of the change. You’ll help us provide the greatest level of safety, protection, and care for our children. Together, as one determined team, working in a strong partnership, we will make Jersey the best place to be a social worker.
Director of Children’s Safeguarding and Care and Chief Social Worker (Children and Families)
